Hollywood Boulevard

Welcome to a street recreating Hollywood in its Golden Age. Here, guests can learn about the making of movies and how they are done. Designed to look like Hollywood in the 1920s-30s, this creates the illusion that guests are stars of their own show.

After walking under the Universal gate, guests come across a statue in the middle of a square, one representing Universal and depicting Woody Woodpecker, the Minions, Frankenstein's Monster, and King Kong in a scene being filmed by the Universal founders. On the left is Studio Central, where guests can get help and services. On the right is Animal Actors, where guests learn how animals are used in film, as well as the Universal Studios Store, the biggest shop in the park.

Going down the boulevard are several shops, including The Darkroom and Stars of Hollywood on the left and Movie Mementos, Picture Shop, and Animation Station on the right. At the end of both sides are restaurants. There's the Hollywood Brown Derby on the left, based on the real-life Hollywood restaurant, as well as Mel's Diner on the right. At the end of the boulevard is a recreation of the Dolby Theater, where guests can go on A Journey Through the Movies, which is similar to the former Great Movie Ride attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios (which I feel like fits better in a Universal park). On both sides of the theater are other theaters overlooking a lake. On the left is WaterWorld, a stunt show, and on the right is the Special Effects Show, where special effects are demonstrated. Further to the left is London while further to the right is Production Central.

So this was an idea for a "Main Street" to Universal. I was going to have it a part of a big Studio area, but I decided to separate the "fictional" Hollywood from the "real" Hollywood. This area is just about movie-making and movies, but you're not in them. I decided to have Production Central for that. Although I was considering having a studio tour, the Journey Through the Movies compromises several elements from it. This was actually an idea I had when learning about DHS's Great Movie Ride. I didn't think it was family-centered enough for a Disney park, so I decided to make a version of it for Universal, consisting of movies by Universal as well as Columbia, Warner Bros., and Paramount. This would be how the ride goes:

  • Intro (Tour guide announces the movie journey)
  • Musical: Viva Las Vegas (1965), and La La Land (2016)
  • Comedy: American Graffiti (1973)
  • Crime: The Godfather (1972)
  • Western: Stagecoach (1939) and The Magnificent Seven (1960)
  • Fantasy: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011)
  • Horror: Frankenstein (1931)
  • Science Fiction: Close Encounters with the Third Kind (1977) and 2001: A Spacetime Odyssey (1968)
  • Historical: Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
  • Thriller: Jaws (1975)
  • Action-Adventure: Top Gun (1988) and King Kong (2005)
  • Finale
